February 6, 2012 Dear 2C Parents and Students, What a disappointing loss for the Patriots and all of their fans. Oh well, let's go Bruins and Celtics! The children made their valentine mailboxes today, so if your child has finished their valentines, they may bring them in to deliver. Please be sure to have your child dress appropriately for the weather. Also, kindly remind your child not to share hats with friends. The 100th Day of School is this Friday. We will do some fun activities in the classroom in order to celebrate this special day. Biography reports and presentation are this Friday, February 10th. Please have your child wear red, purple or pink on Valentine's Day. Class pictures will be held on Thursday, February 16th. The Order Forms were sent home today so check your child's backpack. The 5-2-1-0 Program has begun! Mrs. Hedstrom, Ms. Kodys, and Mr. Wood are asking all students to participate. This month the healthy goal is eating 5 servings of fruits and vagetables a day. Keep track using the "Goal Tracker" sheet I sent home last week. Have your child return it to me on February 28th. Go 2C! Please have your child return their library book each Friday. SPELLING Spelling concept: words with ue, oo, ui, ew Basic Words: too, cool, spoon, new, drew, flew, suit, juice, fruit, blue, true, clue MATH The children are doing very well with addition with regrouping. We have been working on adding three digit numbers with regrouping tens and hundreds. The children are doing very well! I will give the chapter 21 test on Wednesday or Thursday and then we will work on a variety of word problems as well as Time, Money, and Calendar activities. This week's story is Helen Keller and the Big Storm. Skill: Fact and Opinion Grammar: Adverbs that tell how Your child should know the following words and their definitions. They should also be able to give examples of each. Practice at home! Noun- person, place or thing: girl, school, dog Proper Noun- A special person, place or thing: Louise, Sargent School, Fido (Proper nouns begin with CAPITAL LETTERS) Verb- Action words: jump, jumping, jumped Also included; were, was, is, are and am Pronoun- Words that take the place of a noun: he, she, it, we, they, us Synonyms- Similar meanings: happy/glad Antonyms- Opposite meanings: happy/sad Adjectives- Descriptive words: hot, soft, sweet, oval, tiny SOCIAL STUDIES We will begin our "Maps and Globes" unit which encompasses how to read a map, map keys, directions, a compass rose, and signs and symbols.
