Week of May 14, 2012 Famous Floridian Project Due May 15, 2012: Dialogue Components already turned in: 1) The portrait (from the chest up) should take up at least 80% of a 81/2 by 11 inch piece of paper. Include a frame and a slogan. 2) Time line: use the timeline maker link listed in the website/link section at the bottom of this page. 3) Award: use the template provided in the document section at the end of this page.
New AR goals are in the Communication Folder. School AR:Student who reach 80 to 100% of their goal will be awarded point which they may redeem for prizes at the school store. Homework and Class Work 1) Reading: This week we are continuing A Cricket in Time Square. The reading skill is cause and effect. Next week: Meet a Bone-ified Explorer: Workbook p.202 will be assigned on Tuesday to be completed in the vocabulary composition book. The fluency worksheet p.203 will be assigned Monday and due on Thursday, Finally, workbook p.201 will be assigned on Wednesday. Spelling words were assigned on Friday and spelling sentences will be due Tuesday. Riverdeep may be accessed through BEEP. Students have assignments posted in reading and math for them to complete. Activities focus on skills taught in our main selection and takes about 30 minutes to complete. Read at least 30 minutes a day. Every student is expected to participate in the Accelerated Reader (AR)program, which has been in place at Silver Palms Elementary for a few years now. ARbookfind.com online will provide a book's Book Level (BL). The news goals have been set for the 3rd quarter! Students who reach their goal will receive an A grade and a free HW pass. If a students makes 80% of their goal, then he/she will receive a B, etc. All students who doubled their scores will get 2 free HW passes. I also have other rewards for students who meet 100% of their goals. Rewards are also provided for every 5 points earned (pencil, eraser, or candy). In addition PTA will set up a school store to encourage participation in the program and will provide coupons to student who reach their goal. Student will then be able to redeem their coupons for prizes. Prize donations for our class would be greatly appreciated! 2) Grammar. Packet 3) Math Getting Ready for 5th Grade, located at the end of the benchmark workbook. We will work on lessons 1 through 4 this week. Students must continue to review previously taught skills to prepare for 5th grade. Therefore, they should practice multiplying by 2 digit numbers, division, factors, fractions, and decimals. First in Math: Mr. Phillip's class has won the First in Math trophy this week for highest points earned in the program in 4th grade. We are currently in 4th place among all fourth grade teams. Please encourage your child to participate in the gyms and just the Facts, especially if they don't know their basic addition facts, subtraction, and multiplication tables. It is essential for their success that they become proficient with their basic facts. 4) Spelling and vocabulary words were pasted in the agenda on Friday. Spelling words are also available on http://www.spellingcity.com/rabbat/ Spelling sentences are due every Tuesday, unless otherwise specified. 5) Writing. Students have access to an on-line writing program called My Access. The website is myaccess.com. A prompt will not be assigned this week. Students may edit and resubmit their prompt as many times as they wish in order to score as close to a 6 as possible. Grades will be assigned as follows: 6/6 -100%, 5.5/6 - 95%, 5/6 - 85%, 4.5/6 - 80%, 4/6 - 70%. 3.5/6 - 65%, 3/6 - 60%. However, please keep in mind that on the FCAT Writes a score below 4 out of 6 is considered to be a failing score. 6) Science. We are in unit 2 "Space". No Scholastic News issued on Friday. Agendas Please check your child's homework daily. Also, there are important points about the agenda that I would like you to note.
Please remember, when an assignment in the agenda states to finish a certain assignment, it means that the work was started in school but extra time has been allotted to finish the work at home.
