April 14, 2011
Dear Sixth Grade Parents,

As part of our study of the "Creed" standard, we have been discussing and memorizing the Apostles' Creed. The students will write down all of the Apostles' Creed on Wednesday, April 20 for a grade. Please check in with your child to see how much s/he has memorized.

This coming week, we will discuss the Triduum in depth. As this is the most important season in the liturgical year, I encourage you to attend as many of the Triduum Masses as possible.

Two Helping Hands hours are due Wednesday, April 27. Yesterday, I told the students that they would be due the first week in May, but that is wrong. (Seeing that they are religion students, I am confident they will forgive me.)

After the Easter break, we will begin our family life unit. The curriculum points for this standard are available through the St. Vincent's website, but the theme for this unit is: Students will demonstrate their understanding of Christian family life and how it is nourished and passed on.

     Have a wonderful Holy Week!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents,

The class did very well on the Old Testament assignment! I was happy to see so many students put forth such a good effort.

The last day to turn in Helping Hands before the end of the quarter is tomorrow. Also, we have had two assignments in the last week and several students have not turned them in. Please check Powerschool and speak to your child if s/he has not turned in the "Jobs/vocations that provide an important or necessary service" assignment and the "What are vocations? What is God calling you to do?" questions.

Our current unit is Creed. We will discuss the Apostles' Creed, the Trinity, the Paschal Mystery, the Holy Spirit, Mary, and other core Catholic beliefs.

   Have a wonderful Spring Break!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents,

We are almost at the end of our Old Testament unit. Attached is the final assignment, which is due Monday, March 14th. The students will have time to work on the assignment in class on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week while I am away for an accreditation visit with another school. Mr. Longe and Ms. Bobela will substitute for me, so the students may ask them any questions they might have. Please e-mail me if you have any questions; I will be checking my e-mail while I'm away.

Dear Parents,

The 6th grade is in charge of planning the Mass this Friday celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. Please feel free to join us if you are able.

We are in the middle of our Old Testament unit. This assignment is due Thursday: "Summarize the story of Moses." We spoke in class about what one might include in this asssignment. I did not give the students a minimum amount of writing because students tend to stop at the minimum whether they are done or not. Instead, I told them to not write more than 2 pages.

   Take Care,

Gary Green

Dear 6th Grade Parents,

Today, the students will receive the rubrics from their prayer services. Please speak with your child about his/her work, sign the rubric, and have your child bring it to class tomorrow. Thank you.

We will begin our Old Testament unit today. Topics and people we will discuss include: creation, Adam & Eve, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, the Exodus and Passover, David, the Wisdom books, Jeremiah, and Isaiah.

December 7, 2010

Dear Parents,

In an earlier e-mail, I indicated that the 6th graders would create a prayer service and that this would be due Wednesday, December 15th. We haven't had as much time as I anticipated to prepare for this assignment, so I am setting the new due date for Wednesday, January 12th. (I have attached the assignment description and rubric.)

Please let me know if you have any questions.

November 29, 2010

Dear Sixth Grade Parents,
The students received the rubrics from their Sacrament Stained-Glass Window assignment last week. If you haven't done this already, please check with your child about how s/he did. Students can improve their grades by making revisions to their assignments, but that is optional. Students have until Wednesday to make the changes.
We are going to have a quiz about the Mass on Tuesday, November 30th. The quiz will have questions dealing with the most important parts of the Mass and the names of different parts of the Mass. We will go over all potential questions in class and students will have the opportunity to take notes on a sheet I gave them that has the order of the Mass. Students may also use their books for help about the Mass.
The next unit we will do is "Prayer." The culminating activity for this unit is that every student will create their own prayer service. This will be due on Wednesday, December 15th. A copy of the explanation sheet and rubric is attached.
Also, I encourage everyone to come to the Advent Wreath activity
