Week of November 23rd

 

 
 
Reminders

 

 

School picture retakes will be on Monday.  Don’t forget to send in the photo forms or photo packages if you would like your child’s picture retaken.

 

With it being a short week the only homework will be Simple Solutions lessons 13-16.

 

We will be doing holiday activities throughout the week and will not be starting new work.

Please send a snack and drink in for your child on Wednesday.  There will be no lunch served that day.

Not all districts bus children on half days.  Check with your district if you intend for your child to ride the bus home on Wednesday.

All of the following information is for the week of November 30th.

 

Santa Sale is on Wednesday, December 2nd.

 

The children will be singing at La Roche at 12:00 on Wednesday, December 2nd for their Tree Lighting celebration.  All are welcome.  The children can wear Christmas clothes to school that day.

 

We will be celebrating the Grinch on Friday, December 4th.  The children can wear green shirts and jeans to school that day.

 

 

This Week in First Grade…

 

 

Language Arts

  • writing letters to Santa
  • working on pronouns
  • learning that we name ourselves last in a sentence

 

 

 Math

  • learning about symmetry
  • using patterns to problem solve
  • designing symmetry
  • taking a test on Chapter 8

Note:  There are a lot of word problems in our Math series.  I don’t expect that the children can read the problems on their own.  I always read the problems to them. 

 

 

 

Social Studies

  • learning about the seasons and different types of weather

 

 

Religion

  • discussing that the Holy Spirit helps us
  • taking a test on Chapter 11
  • learning about some of the Saints
