Social Studies Friday Nov. 20: Students reviewed propaganda posters from WWI and identified the propaganda technique used during this time. Students were given notes on the effects of the Treaty of Versailles on Germany. Students created a plan for a propaganda poster as an exit slip from class today. Students tried to persuade someone to buy Liberty Bonds during WWI. HEY!!! THANKS TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS THAT DONATED THE LIGHTNING THIEF ($4.99) TO MY CLASSROOM! Social Studies Thursday 11/19: Students read and discussed key events from WWI and answered questions. Students wrote a letter explaining about life in the WWI trenches and how they would feel being a soldier during WWI. Book Fair tomorrow for track 1--Parents: Mrs. Austin has a wish for her classroom: The Lightning Thief ($4.99) I have 15 copies and hope to get 20 more copies to use in my classroom. What a great deal!!! Students and parents can ask staff about donating these books. The Media Center has them boxed and reserved for Mrs. Austin. Science-Thursday, November 19- we discussed the 10 answers to the Sat and Sand Lab. we went over Soil Questions 1-9. We discussed and took notes on Oxidation. I collected the Salt and Sand Lab answers. Homework- FINISH questions 1-10 on page 135 and questions 1-5 on page 137. Science-Wed-Nov 18- students observed salt and beach sand under a stereoscope. Students had 9 questions to answer regarding their observations. Homework- FINISH lab questions 1-9 from class today on Salt and Sand. (Lab questions are attached under "Downloads". Complete questions 1-5 on page 114 in your book.Language Arts: Thursday, 11/19 "Me Ads" and your propaganda essay are BOTH due tomorrow. The outline for your essay is attached. Social Studies Wednesday 11/18: Students are turning in their textbooks this week. We reviewed the main points of the Industrial Revolution and started discussing the beginning and causes of WWI in class today. I have books on reserve in the media center for parents to donate to my class...The Lightning Thief $5.00--what a deal!!!!. Students or parents can purchase a certificate to donate one of these books to my class. I have 15 copies and want 35 for my classroom so I can use with students. Students go to the book fair this Friday!!! . Language Arts: Wednesday, 11/18 Today students began work on their final propaganda assessment, a "Me Ad" with an accompanying essay that explains and analyzes their advertisement. The assignment sheet is attached. This completed project (ad and essay) is due on Friday at the beginning of class. Students will be given tomorrow's class to work on this, but will also need to work diligently at home to finish by Friday. Science-Nov 17- Homework- complete Soil questions up to 65. Today we studied chemical and mechanical weathering as well as erosion. Review answers on Density & TBB Quiz. Watched a video. Math: Wednesday, 11/18: Due Today: Any missing assessments/assignments (Deadline 11/20) Classwork: Textbook Lesson 3-5 "Scientific Notation" Homework: Workbook Lesson 3-5, all Note: Textbooks are due 11/20. Social Studies Tuesday Nov 17: Return your blue text books now! Today we discussed the affects of the Industrial Revolution on Great Britain and Europe. Enlightenment timelines are due tomorrow!! The WLMS Book Fair is fast approaching this friday week 11/19-trackout. I am wondering if parents would donate copies of the book The The Lightning Thief by Rick Riodan to me. This book is a great price only $5.00 at our book fair. I am building my own set of copies of this book to use in the classroom. The Media Center is holding several copies of this book in reserve in case parents would like to donate books to my classroom. Parents can purchase a gift certificate from the Media Center that I could turn into books for my class. My goal is to have a class set by March so I can use it with my classes this year and in years to come. This book is on my wish list! Science-Tuesday, November 10 -- today students received 3 graded papers back and they corrected their mistakes (Data Tables for Density Labs (2) and Mineral Test) I performed a demonstration with Coke, Diet Coke and Aluminum Foil. Students predicted outcomes and are hypoethesizing about the demonstration. Homework- Chapter 4 Soil Questions 35-44 due Thursday. Quiz this Friday. We placed the 11 objects in order from least dense to most dense. Homework-study for Mineral Test. You have two practice tests to study! I also made a one page condensed study guide which is attached below under "downloads". Test is TOMORROW! Both practice tests are attached below along with the answers. Look under "downloads". You should look over chapter 2 in your book as well. Social Studies -Monday 10/26: Complete flip book if you have not and turn in tomorrow. Complete post card activity started in class today. This is a creative writing assignment which goes with a simulation activity today on the Black Death and it's effects on Europe. Students will write about their imaginary travels through Europe during this time. I have encouraged the students to use their imaginations and also knowledge of Medieval Europe at this time in this creative writing activity. Students should fill their card with sentences about traveling through Europe during this time. Social Studies Monday, Aug. 24: Today we read page 314-315 from the new red text and started a top 10 chart for the achievements of the Ancient Greeks. Students are to read page 116 in blue text tonight and complete the chart and decorate for homework tonight. Students also read a myth in class and recorded facts about the god or goddess in the myth in preparation for the upcoming project on a god or goddess from Ancient Greece called the "I am" poem. Language Arts: Monday, 8/24 Today we read ch. 16-17 in Tuck Everlasting and completed groupwork for the two chapters. Vocab words for this week will be given out tomorrow, and our quiz will be on Monday instead of Friday. Tomorrow, figurative language bookmarks are due! Also, we will circulate at the library tomorrow, so be sure to bring back any library books you still have checked out from the beginning of the year. Tomorrow we will also begin a five-paragraph problem/solution essay that is tied to our novel. This will be turned in next week before we track out. SCIENCE- Friday, August 21: Today we went discussed the Beans and Rice Lab (Convection Currents). We talked about how students were supposed to observe convection currents in action and relate that to the convection currents in the mantle of the earth. We talked about how the hot plate represented the core of the earth (both radiate heat), the water movement in beaker represented hot rock circulating in the mantle and the movement of beans and rice represented crustal plate movement. I collected lab conclusions. We also went over all sections of Plate Tectonics Homework Questions and started working on the Practice Test. Homework: students should FINISH their practice test on Plate Tectonics. Bring completed Practice Test to class on Monday! Real Test will be next Wednesday, Aug 26. Each student should have a blue textbook at home for homework. Students began a flipbook on the physical features of South America. Students should complete the pages we started. We will be working on these in class. Flip books will be graded and are due on Friday. South America political maps were graded and returned to students. Students will need to study the location of countries in S. America for an upcoming test next week.
