Tuesday: Guest Speaker Jacques vaDam, s Holocaust survior, coming to us through the Holocaust Museum of Southwest Florida.
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: Present speeches (Students practice, then read their World War II Resistance essay to the class).

about an hour later wilfred noticed that several animals laughed giddily and through popcorn at each other
this is getting out of hand he moaned

at that point he noticed hilda. she was dancing with eggbert as she gazed into his beady eyes
This week all 1st drafts, conclusions, second drafts, bibliographies, and final copy of the Resistance Essay should be completed and turned in to be graded. The completed essay, written on the FCAT paper, is due Friday.
Wednesday is the District Language Arts Post-Test.
First period students, please return signed Interims.

Monday: Return 1st drafts of research essay, sts work on editing and revising. Ida Baker High School here today.
Tuesday: Write concluding paragraph to research essay in class.
Wednesday: Complete Bibliography page for research essay, collect, teacher will grade, with corrections.
Thursday: In Media Center and computer lab: Return Bibliographies, sts make any corrections. Gather any research required to fill "holes" in their essays or bibliographies.
Friday: Complete 2nd draft of essay, collect, teacher will grade.

Week of 4/27:
Continuing with our Holocaust Unit, we are preparing a 5-paragraph FCAT-style research essay. The general topic is resistance to the Axis Powers; students have selected narrow-down, individual topics.
Monday: I will demonstrate how to organize research notes, and we will poilish our Introductory paragraphs.
Tuesday: To Media Center to obtain additional research, if needed, and to make sure we have three sources for our bibliographies.
Wednesday: Demonstration and practice with paraphrasing our notes.
Thursday and Friday: Pull notes together and write the three body paragraphs:
1. Who was my resistance group or person?
2. How did they resist?
3. Was it effective?
I will collect and grade this first draft of Intro paragraph and three body paragraphs Friday.

Week of 4/20:
We continue our Holocaust Unit that we began with a three-day introduction last week.
Attached to end of this entry are the instructions for the research paper/essay, including due dates and bibliography page format.
The essential question of the unit is this: "What factors shape the choices individuals and groups make during times of crisis?"
Monday: Read article about Schindler. Use the text to take "practice notes" on the graphic organizer before we begin the research paper/essay.
Copy first paragraph of teacher's research paper to use a model for student papers.
There will be a CD playing the music of the Holocaust to set the mood in class today.
Tuesday: To computer lab to begin research.
Wednesday: Field trip to Ida Baker High School. Return to Challenger by 1:00 for lunch. Afternoon classes will be held. My afternoon classes will browse my collection of books and art by children of the Holocaust.
Thursday: Back to computer lab to continue research.
Friday: To computer lab to continue research, may also use Media Center texts for research.

No plagiarism (ie: stealing). No using a sources ideas or words without giving the source credit on the bibliography page. No in text citations necessary.

This week we are going to make and verify predictions and evaluate humor in a short story: "The Ransom of Red Chief."
Monday night homework is to complete the vocabulary handout - quiz on Friday.
Most of the work will be in class since we only have one set of textbooks. Thursday homework is, if necessary, to complete the prediction worksheet and active reading guide, and to practice the story's vocabulary for the quiz Friday.
