Dear Parents,

Here is what to expect this week in our 2nd grade classroom.

Religion : We will study chapter 20 and learn about the consecration of the bread and wine at Mass. We will also prepare to observe the feast of Pentecost which is the birthday of the church, and learn a song about the fruit of the spirit.

Math:  This Tuesday is National Metrology Day, and students in the lower grades will do some special measurement exercises. We will also watch the annual tradition of upper grade students doing an "egg drop" (dropping an egg from the school balcony, using uniquely designed padding). Other concepts to be covered include locating and graphing points on a coordinate graph, representing survey questions on a graph, showing change for a dollar, and dividing by 2.

Language Arts : Our weekly story is  Abuela, about a girl who goes on a fantastic imaginary adventure with her grandmother. Our spelling words will be "schwa" words, short 'o' sounds with all / au / ough . In grammar we will look at various verb endings.

Social Studies: This week we will focus on red, white, and blue as we prepare to celebrate Memorial Day.

Science : We will wrap up our chapter on nutrition and begin to take a look at the workings of the body through exercise.

I hope to see you at the tap recital this Wednesday, May 23rd at 1:30 !

Have a great week.

Mrs. Hager
