Dear Parents,
We had such a wonderful time observing Catholic Schools Week, celebrating the heritage of our faith and the wonderful education provided at the Visitation Academy. Thank you for all the kind gestures during Teacher Appreciation Day. And I am sure the students are still recovering from all the fun during Student Appreciation day, wearing their jammies and watching a movie!
Here is what is going on in the 2nd grade classroom this coming week:
Religion: We will continue to learn about the Reconciliation, the Sacrament of Peace given by Jesus after he arose at Easter, as we study chapter 12 in our Religion book and learn about confession and penance.
Math: This week's math concepts include cutting apart a geometric shape, using comparison symbols <, >, and =, pictographs with a scale of 2, fractional parts of a whole, and writing a number in expanded form. We will also add to our repertoire of subtraction facts by including -4, with new math wraps and a set of cards with which to play "concentration" at home.
Language Arts: This week's literature selection begins a new unit on imaginative stories with Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash. Our spelling list is words with ' oo '. In grammar we will take a look at synonyms. Students will continue to expand their vocabulary and hone their dictionary skills by looking up a cross-curricular word of the day. We will also watch how the "big girls" are doing as we observe the spelling bee for grades 4-8.
Social Studies: February is Black History Month, and we will learn about the many contributions of African Americans and famous firsts by Jackie Robinson and others.
Have a great week. Mrs. Hager
