Parents,
Thank you so much to all of you who have attended your child’s first quarter Report Card conference.  I have enjoyed meeting with you and discussing your child’s progress thus far.  If you have not met with me yet, please contact me (704-933-2534 or send a note) to schedule a time.
Your child brought home information for the Cookie Dough Fundraiser.  This is a great way for our school to raise money needed to put additional technology in the classrooms.  Please turn in orders and money by November 19.
Next week will be a very busy week.  We have the 1st quarter A.R. reward trip Monday.  Report Cards will be sent home on Tuesday.  There is no school on Wednesday, in celebration of Veteran’s Day.  As you know, November and December are filled with days/weeks like this.  Please remind your child that school is still in session and we still have work to do, no matter how excited we may be about the holidays.
I am sending home a Reading Log with students each week in the Green Folders.  Students need to read a total of 100 minutes from one Friday to the next.  This may be done with A.R. books, magazines, newspapers, etc.  Reading Logs are due each Friday and will count as a reading homework grade.  A zero will be given if Logs aren’t turned in.

Next week in Mr. Burris's Class:

READING:  Next week will be a review week in Reading.  We will review many of the concepts that we have studied over the last few weeks.  As always, please listen to your child read each and every night, including weekends.

MATH: We have finished subtraction and rounding for now, although these concepts will be reviewed throughout the year.  We will begin studying multiplication next week.  Please begin reviewing multiplication facts at home with your child.  Studying Math Vocabulary and key words will also help your child with math word problems, which will be seen a lot on the E.O.G.

SOCIAL STUDIES: None this week.

SCIENCE: We will continue our unit of study on Bones and the Human Body.

WRITING: We will continue working on our first student written papers.  Students should know the rules to follow in writing sentences and should be answering all open-ended questions in class and on homework in a complete sentence.  Points are being deducted for incomplete sentences.
