Dear Parents and Students,
- We have started our Reading Folders for the 2011- 2012 school year. Third graders are asked to read at least 15 minutes every night, including weekends. Every night, please ask your child 2 to 3 questions about what they read. Remember to initial that your child did read. All information must be logged into the Reading Folder. The biggest issue I am seeing is with the 6 vocabulary words. Students are to turn in 6 new vocabulary each week. These words should be words that your child did not know while reading. Our goal is for the children to be learning new words every week.
- Please encourage them to follow school and classroom rules at all times. We have a lot of unnecessary talking and playing going on in the classroom. Third grade is a big step up from previous years and there is a lot of material to cover in preparation for the EOG's.
- Parents have now received information concerning 1st quarter Report Card Conferences. Please return the information to me as soon as possible. I will be having conferences on Monday, October 31 (which is a teacher workday).
- October is Fire Prevention Month. Please review fire prevention and safety measures with all of your children. Thank you!
- Third grade does not have a Halloween Party. We are only allowed to have 2 parties per school year. We will have a party for Christmas and for the End-of-the-Year. I will contact you in regards to providing treats/items/goodies for the party.
- Your child is bringing home his/her school pictures last week. If you are not happy with your child's picture, we have a picture make-up day on October 25. You must return your child's packet in order for him/her to have a retake.
- I have had many questions about parents attending the field trips. All of our trips are School System required, therefore, parents are not able to attend trips with us this year due to limited space. Thanks.
Upcoming Events
-Friday October 28 - Early Release Day - Enochville students leave at 12:00 noon
- Monday October 31 - Teacher Workday - NO School for Students
I continue to look forward to working with you and your child as the school year progresses. I am sure that with all of us working together, it will continue to be a great year! If at anytime you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to send me a note or give me a call after school. I am usually at school until 4:30 each day. One last thing, I do like to give treats to students for various things. If you would be willing to send small individually wrapped treats (candy) or small items that I could use for treats, I would greatly appreciate any contributions.

Let's Get Growing!
Thank you for the opportunity to teach your child this school year.. I am sure that if we all work together it will continue be a great year. If you have questions or concerns during the year, please send me a note or call me at school (704-933-2534). Smiles, words of encouragement and pats on the back can mean more than an A+ on a paper and create a child's positive attitude toward school and learning - let's make it OUR goal to make sure each child feels that warmth everyday!
