Dear Parents,

Fifth grade math students are playing with the ancient Greek concept of "pi" or 3.14 dealing with the circumference of circles.  That really is an interesting discovery to do with circles.  We are also involved in geometry and measurement.  Lots to learn there as well as opportunities to go above and beyond with this group.
Fourth grade math students are plunging into fractions.  This part of math is really fun, I think.  Fractions are fascinating numbers considering all that can be done with them mathematically speaking.

Fourth grade reading class got a bit delayed with the independent study project since I was out for several days myself plus snow days, too.  Anyway, that is up and coming and will give students a chance to be creative on their own.  Presentations will be made, and I'm looking forward to seeing them.

Third grade AIG has had a taste of Unexplained Phenomena and will do a bit more in that area.  We will also be doing more practice with Papy Computer.  Ask your kids about that if they haven't told you yet.  We delve into many different areas in third grade AIG including some PBL practice.  That's an abbreviation for problem based learning.  Students are presented with a situation and have to decide what to do about it.  This is done in groups.

I've started seeing the Kindergarten classes on a regular basis now.  We're beginning with the friendship theme as I have with first and second graders earlier in the year.  It's interesting to see how the different grade levels relate to this topic.  We will also be doing a variety of thinking skills and a simple PBL (problem based learning) activity for these students.  This is a small group activity in which students decide how to resolve a simple situation.

Hope you enjoyed the snow!!  We will be making up those days sometime!!

As always, feel free to come by, ask questions, or participate.
