During the week of May 7th through May 11th,  Ms. Russell's awesome students will be busy doing the following:

=========================================

MONDAY:   Life Skills warm-up, video segment, connections, pre-test in spelling and reading, homework is dispersed today.  The students will be working on their Mother's Day gifts today :)

TUESDAY:   Life Skills warm-up, video segment, connections, academic stations

WEDNESDAY:  Life skills warm up, video segment, connections, academic rotations.

FRIDAY:  Life skills warm up, video segment, connections, students will take their post-test (spelling and reading), Math and writing homework is due today. The students will bring home their Mother's Day gifts today.

=========================================

  • Edmark station:  The students are working hard on mastering both the word recognition and comprehenison portions of the early Edmark lessons.   All of my students have mastered these early lessons in regards to their word recognition skills, but comprehension also has to be mastered in order for the student to truly master that level.  So, in order to find out what levels the students have mastered, we have to assess their word recognition skills as well as their reading comprehension skills.  They read Edmark short stories, discuss elements of the story, such as the characters and setting, answer who, what, where, why and how questions pertaining to the story, and complete comprehension activities which are aligned with the stories.  In addition, data is gathered on each student's individual reading IEP goals/objectives while at the Edmark station.
  • Touch Math Station:  When the students work at the Touch Math station, they complete work that is aligned with their math IEP goals and objectives. Some of the students are working on counting, number identification, and single digit addition, while others are working on double digit addition/ subtraction with regrouping and multiplication.  Manipulatives, number lines, dry eraser boards, and Touch Math cards are used to assist in the learning during this station.   Data is gathered on the progress each student makes toward their IEP math goals/objectives.

  • Computer Station:  The students will be working on MobyMax.com this week.

  • Leisure Time Station:  This station is in the Cozy Corner of our classroom.  Students can relax, read, color, draw or play games during this station.

  • Independent Station:  When it is time for the students to visit this station, they return to their desks and complete  a variety of activities. Several days a week is spent sitting at their desk working on various worksheets within their Independent Station binder.  The remainder of the week is spent on life skills activities. The life skills activities they work on are:
    • folding/sorting laundry
    • setting the table (plate, cup, napkin, fork, spoon and knife)
    • opening and closing different size containers (fine motor and life skills)
    • place beads on a pipe cleaner (fine motor)
    • fill penny rolls (life skills and fine motor)
    • sort nuts and bolts
    • assemble nuts and bolts together(fine motor)
    • sort coins
    • File Folder games that span a large variety of life skills
    • 5 food groups game
    • keyboard familiarization activities
    • phone skills
    • traffic sign practice
    • hygiene activities

  • Styer-Fitzgerald Station:  When the students visit this station, I work with them on functional academics.  The various skills we work on are:  time telling, time management, counting coins and bills, calculator skills, computer skills, phone skills, and life skills such as check writing, filling out forms and applications, and reading a bus schedule.  We also work on their individual IEP goals that are not addressed at the Edmark or Touchmath stations.

  • Homework:  The students will bring home spelling/writing homework as well as 1-2 math worksheets for homework every Monday.  This is due the following Friday. PLEASE go over these words with your child throughout the week.  When they study, it REALLY makes a difference in their spelling test grades!!! THANK YOU!!

 As always, I have an open door policy.  Any family member is more than welcome to come by and see their child in our classroom.  We are located in room #124.

Thank you for everything you do!!
