fitness nov 1 Notes:

Circuit training is a workout routine that combines cardiovascular fitness and resistance training. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. It was first proposed in the late 1950s as a method to develop general fitness. The initial routines were arranged in a circle, alternating between different muscle groups (hence the name circuit training). By allowing only a short rest interval of 30 seconds between stations, cardiovascular fitness is gained along with the benefits of resistance training

fitness nov 3 notes:

Muscular strength- the ability of a muscle group to apply maximal force against a resistance (the weight lifted) one time.
Muscular endurance- the ability to repeat muscle movement over a period of time.
Muscle is denser than fat, one pound of muscle takes up less space than one pound of fat.
To improve muscular fitness, you must overload the muscles, making them work harder than normal. Overload can be placed on the body, through the application of frequency, intensity and time.
Frequency- (how often) you must give time for muscles to grow. Muscles should be exercised every other day upper body one day, lower body the next
Intensity- (how hard)- the amount of weight you lift. You must increase the amount of weight gradually to see improvement.
Time- refers to the # of times the exercise is performed. A repetition is a completion of a single full range movement of the body part being exercised. Each time you lift a barbell you are performing 1 rep. a group of reps is called a set.
