Syllabus

Text: No textbook is required.
Description:
In art class, our course of study will focus upon problem-solving, using the elements and principles of design in order to create expressive, but well-organized works of art. We will also focus heavily on basic drawing skills. Students will be exposed to a variety of both two and three-dimensional materials and mediums, and will also have opportunities to write about and discuss their own works, and the works of others.
Goals:
1. Students will create artworks using a variety of media and techniques.
2. Students will be able to identify major artists and styles.
3. Students will begin to analyze their own artwork, other student’s work and the work of well-known artists through critiques and in-class writing.
4. Students will develop their own style by creating sketches to plan for major art projects.
5. Students will create a portfolio of work throughout the course that demonstrates increasing skill and ability
6. Students will maintain a visual journal in which to keep class notes, sketches, observational items and vocabulary.
7. Improve his/her verbal skills by learning the visual vocabulary and apply those terms during class discussions, critique and projects.
8. Ask questions! Think! Learn! Create! Have fun!

Missed/ Late Assignments:
Any missing assignments should be completed upon return to school. It is the policy of the Muscogee County School District that students are given 3 days to make up work upon return. Please ask for missing work and complete the work within reasonable time.

Late work will be accepted up to 1 week after the due date. 5 Points will be deducted from the total 100 points per day late. This means that if a student turns in a project 5 days late the maximum grade he/she can earn is a 75.

Attendance:
Attendance is extremely important to maintain learning and to ensure the completion of projects. If an absence is necessary then follow the guidelines of the Muscogee County School District and report the absence immediately. Upon return to school a note should be given to the guidance clerk as well as the teachers.

F 69% - 0%

Extra Credit: Extra credit will be given at the discretion of the teacher. Extra credit will be considered if and only if all assignments are completed and turned in. Please utilize My Big Campus to gain extra points for topic discussions.

Projects: Students will be required to do projects on a weekly basis. Projects will be based on the core concepts and techniques taught during that week’s lesson. The majority of the student’s grade will be derived from these projects so it is imperative that each project is completed.

Homework: Home work is extremely important as it reinforces the content taught that day. Homework will be given periodically. The assignments will be due 1 week from the day assigned unless otherwise stated.

Notebook Grades: Notebooks are important to maintain as it relates to organization and content. Therefore, there will be a periodic notebook check to make sure the students are utilizing the notebook. Notebooks should be brought to class DAILY. Notebook checks will be announced and students will be given ample time to prepare.

Dear Parents,

My name is Mr. Leon. I am the current Visual Arts teacher at Fort Service Learning Magnet Academy. This will be my third year teaching in Muscogee County School District and FSLMA, so I am extremely excited to continue my chapter at "The Best Middle School in the World!!!"
