Dear Students and Parents,

Last week , we started our final unit: HISTORY! We focused on World War I, World War II and the Cold War. These concepts were covered in 5th grade and many students have a good understanding of the information but we concentrate more on the impact of the wars rather than what happened during the conflicts.

This week, students will complete 3 days of "mock" testing to prepare for the GMAS. 6-2 will also give students an in-class opportunity to make up missing work.

If you did not see Fort's huge student growth on the GMAS from last year published in the paper, please click the link below. I am proud of the social studies department that came in second place with 76% growth in social studies :)

**Parents, I try to have quizzes weekly or bi-weekly to document students' mastery of the standards. Students are allowed to check out their interactive student notebooks (ISNs) with teacher permission to prepare for quizzes and in some instances are able to use their ISNs when taking a quiz. I also send out weekly or bi-weekly study sheets that require a parent signature to ensure that students are actually studying, I have review materials available under the 6th grade tab of my website, and I send out a reminder text message the week of the quiz.

This week in social studies:
Monday: "Mock" Testing

Tuesday: Students make up missing assignments

Wednesday: "Mock" Testing

Thursday: "Mock" Testing

Friday: Record "Imports and Exports" rap and "Government Rap"

Homework: Learn the "World War I" rap. *See 6th grade tab for video and lyrics* Please come to Saturday School from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Tutoring will be held on Wednesday from 4:00-5:00 p.m.
