I assigned a paper to the PAP classes - the paper is due January 18th. All work is done outside of class. Below is the assignment sheet and rubric.

Republic of Texas PAP Paper

Objective: Write a paper that is about one of the figures during the Republic of Texas listed below.

People during Republic of Texas:

  1. Sam Houston
  2. Mirabeau B. Lamar
  3. Lorenzo de Zavala
  4. Anson Jones
  5. Mary Maverick
  6. Jack Coffee Hayes

Information:

  • Paper will be typed with 12 point Arial font, 1” margins all around, typed, NO NAME OR TITLE ON PAPER.
  • If paper is handwritten, it must be 2 pages, front only, black or blue pen (NO pencil), and skip lines.
  • A cover sheet must accompany the paper – can be hand decorated or with computer generated images. This is where you will put your name and title of your paper.
  • No plagiarism – this is the act of copying directly from a source, and will result in a “0”. You are to put everything in your own words.
  • Please list sources on a separate sheet of paper, title of website as well as the URL. The paper needs a minimum of two sources; your spiral can be used but does not count in the final list of number of sources.
  • This project will count as 3 grades.

What am I looking for?

  • Content: is the information presented accurate and relative to Texas History? Is the information correct? Does the information have to deal with the period of TX History relating to the Republic of Texas?
  • Presentation: Is the paper 1 page? Are the margins 1”? Is the font 12 pt. Arial? Is there a title or name on the actual paper? Are there “no-no” words? (If handwritten: is the paper double spaced? Is the paper written in print and black or blue pen? Is the paper 2 pages in length? Is the paper written only on the front of the page?)
  • Sources: Are the sources listed? Are the URL’s working? Are the websites/books/etc. from a reputable source? ABSOLUTELY NO WIKIPEDIA, WIKI-LINKS, WIKI-ANSWER, WIKI ANYTHING!!!!!

How can the paper be due on the 18th of January, such papers require a lot more time than that! The idea of how to write a report led me to this deadline. Now I think that it must be a typo because the deadline can't be this short.
