 In language arts we are working on the 8 parts of speech. Your child has a project that is due Tuesday, August 27. We will start reading the novel 5000 miles to freedom. It is a story about a family\'s flight from slavery.

In social studies we will study government, culture, continuity and change. Your child has a project due on August 27th. They are to create a map of an imaginary place. They were given a rubric Thursday.

Activity: Journal entry: 2. Did your prediction about the book match what you have read about the front and back covers?

3.In literary groups, read chapter 1 of the novel. Teacher and students will identify unfamiliar terms and use context clues to predict the definitions.

4.Record the series of events from the pages read thus far.
