Thank you so much for visiting my schoolnotes page :) Schoolnotes is a wonderful tool for parents/guardians to use throughout the school year.  If you check it every Sunday, you will be able to stay abreast of what your child will be busy learning at FSLMA for the upcoming week.

 

During the week of September 3rd through September 6th,  Ms. Russell's superb students will be busy doing the following:

MONDAY:   LABOR DAY--NO SCHOOL

 

TUESDAY: Life Skills warm-up, Brain Gym/video segment, connections and pre-test in spelling and reading. Homework is dispersed today in the student's take home folders.  We will also continue our science lesson on SHARKS today.

 

WEDNESDAY:  Life skills warm up, Brain Gym/video segment, connections, academic rotations.  

 

THURSDAY:  Life skills warm up, Brain Gym/video segment, connections, academic rotations.

 

FRIDAY:  Life Skills warm up, Brain Gym/video segment, connections, Spelling/Reading post-test.  Homework is also due today. We will complete our week long lesson on SHARKS today.

    • Edmark station:  The students are working hard on mastering both the word recognition and comprehenison portions of their Edmark lessons.   Every week, they work on the following skills at the reading station:  1) They read their Story of the Week orally (word recognition and fluency) while also discussing elements of the story, such as the characters and setting,  2) They answer reading comprehension questions that ask who, what, where and why--these go along with their weekly story (verbally and written),   3)  They practice reading key words, phrases and sentences out of the Edmark Manual (discrimination, word recognition and fluency), and 4) They complete Edmark comprehension worksheets that are linked to their independent reading level.  These worksheets concentrate on picture/phrase matching and filling in the blank.  In addition, data is gathered on each student's individual reading IEP goals/objectives while at the Edmark station.  


    • Touch Math Station:  When the students work at the Touch Math station, they complete work that is aligned with their math IEP goals and objectives. Some of the students are working on counting, number identification, and single digit addition, while others are working on double digit addition/ subtraction with regrouping, multiplication and division.  Manipulatives, number lines, dry eraser boards, and Touch Math cards are used to assist in the learning during this station.   Data is gathered on the progress each student makes toward their IEP math goals/objectives. 

     

    • Computer Station:  When the students transition to the computer station, they work on Achieve3000, Star Reading/Math and Moby Max.  These are standards based websites where students at any level can practice their academic skills. 

     

    • Leisure Time Station:  This station is in the Cozy Corner of our classroom.  Students can read, color, draw or play educational games while at this station.

     

    • Independent Station:  When it is time for the students to visit this station, they return to their desks and complete work in their Independent Work Binders.  These binders have a variety of worksheets that cover math, reading, writing, counting money, and telling time. The students can also spend this time working on class work they are behind on.

     

    • Styer-Fitzgerald Station:  When the students visit this station, I work with them on functional academics.  The various skills we work on are:  digital time telling, time management, counting coins and bills, calculator skills, computer skills, phone skills, and life skills such as check writing.  We also work on their individual IEP goals that are not addressed at either the Edmark or Touchmath stations.

     

    Functional Science:    We will complete our lesson on sharks this week.  Our concentration will be on sharks food and their young. The students have definitely enjoyed learning about these awesome and scary fish! 

     

    • Homework:  The students will bring home spelling/writing homework as well as 2 math worksheets for homework every Monday.  This is due the following Friday. PLEASE go over these words with your child throughout the week.  When they study, it REALLY makes a difference in their spelling test grades!!! THANK YOU!! 

     As always, I have an open door policy.  Any family member is more than welcome to come by and see their child in our classroom.  We are located in room #124 in Zone D with Team 7-2.

Thankfully, our annual Field Day has been rescheduled :)  The new date is Friday, May 10th, 2019.  PARENTS: Please try to locate the blue MWR t-shirt your child brought home.  It says ATHLETE in big white lettering on the back.  They will need to wear this on May 10th.
