When it comes to cooling and heating elements within a home, the most frequently asked questions is, “Where is my furnace filter located?” When you are moving into a new home and there is need to change your filter, or if you are living in your home for many years and you feel that it is time to change your furnace filter, you may have difficulty in finding the filter. So, the question arises, how can you locate your furnace filter?

The location of your furnace filter is somewhere close to where the fan is located. This can be applied to all different types of heating furnaces, including electric furnaces, air conditioners, gas furnaces, as well as oil furnaces. It must be noted that individuals who are working in the HVAC industry for many years can find difficulty in locating hidden filters.

Furnace filters can be found inside the opening of a duct or even behind other equipment and behind panels. Manufacturers of furnace filters usually choose a designated location where filters can be installed in front of the fan components. You can often locate furnace filter within the duct system and upstream of the air handler location. This location can be common when it comes to air conditioning or older systems.

You have to keep in mind that there is also possibility that no furnace filter is installed when the whole unit was originally installed. It may be possible that it have been removed, it may never have been installed into the systems. In such case, you have to examine your furnace officially to ensure that everything is safe or not. Without furnaces filter you indoor air quality will be poor and hazardous for your health. In addition to this, it will cause inefficiency in your cooling or heating systems. If your airflow is poor it can cause a lot of problems in your furnace and your heat exchanger heats up too much, even it can crack. This can cause fire or a carbon monoxide leak.

So, make sure that you have a furnace filter in your furnace and it is properly maintained at all times.
