Scientific theory – explanation that is supported by results from repeated experimentation

Science – a way of learning about the natural world

Scientific law – rules that describe the behavior of something in nature

Observing – using your senses to gather information

Inferring – when you explain or interpret the things you observe

Predicting – making a forecast of what will happen in the future

Variable – one of the factors that can change in an experiment

Independent (manipulated) variable – one of the factors that can change during an experiment

Dependent (responding) variable – the variable that is being measured

Constant variable – the factor that stays the same in an experiment
