Being a teacher it is your biggest responsibility that you take care of every single student who is in your class, but when it comes to treat a child who recently experienced any horrible trauma which even mature people cannot dare to experience then trust me you have the biggest responsibility on your shoulders being a teacher. That student, who has gone through this horrible experience of witnessing trauma, needs your full attention, so make sure that you help him/ her to forget the past and kick off the positive journey again and indeed it is the social responsibility of all the teachers. Followings are some effective tips, which will guide you to treat the child with trauma in a best manner, so go through them thoroughly.

1.     Talk to counselors and social workers

Before teacher treats a child who just experienced horrible trauma, it is her/her responsibility to properly communicate with the counselors and social workers to recognize and understand the hazardous impacts of trauma on that child.

2.     Engage that child in any positive activity

Being a teacher, you must make immediate efforts to contribute in reducing the stress of that child, because trauma is what that is the biggest reason to get hazardous stress and for a child it is very dangerous and may cause him/her any other serious health issue.

3.     Providing a choice is very helpful

You must understand being a teacher that children with having a trauma history, do lack of control, so you must provide safe ways to students for actually exercising choice and control within any specific activity or within in the environment such as choice of seats, books and many more.

4.     Make efforts to develop strengths & interests

Make sure you fully focus on an area of competence and do encourage its development for contributing to a healthy self-concept and this will eventually help you to treat that child in a best manner

5.     You must recognize emotional truth

Being a teacher you must understand that factual truth happens to be unimportant compared to that specific student’s emotional truth. Your teaching ethics teach you that you are not to investigate the details of student’s trauma in fact you are there to understand how that specific student responds to that particular trauma & how this emotional response can impact the student in school.

6.     Come up with a unique plan

You must give a space to that specific student if he/she gets overwhelmed or triggered during class. You must designate any specific place in a school where that student will take a sensory break or to again regulate his/her emotions. You may also provide her/him any kind of sensory calming tools such as puzzles, colors and many more.

7.     Your health is also very important

Being a teacher as you have to deal with the child with having the trauma history, it is also very important that you also take care of your health. You must remember that while dealing with that specific student, you may also come across fatigue, so make sure you do not face it while dealing that specific child in class.
