Music "Notes"

1st and Second Grade classes have done a fantastic job becoming Beat Masters. We're now working on becoming Rhythm Geniuses. We introduced percussion instruments this week: hand drums, rhythm sticks and egg shakers. We are learning to sing two patriotic songs: America the Beautiful and My Country 'tis of Thee.

3rd Grade classes are Beat Masters and Rhythm Geniuses! We've introduced percussion instruments and ensemble playing in preparation for an exploratory unit on guitar. They did a fantastic job preparing the song "Mr. Beat Boy" for performances for their teachers.

4th Grade are Meter Masters and can recognize 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 meters just by hearing the music. We are using percussion instruments to develop ensemble skills we'll use once we get the guitars.

5th Grade are Meter Masters and have added the compound meter of 6/8 to their curriculum vitae. They have been working on creating their own rhythms in 6/8 meter. We have been learning about Reggae Music. We are using percussion instruments to develop ensemble skills that we'll use when the guitars arrive.

A class set of guitars have been ordered. However, they were ordered from Texas and shipping has been delayed due to the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. We hope to get the guitars very soon!
