The text states that, “Instructional planning brings students and texts together in ways that support content literacy and learning.” Elaborate on this statement and describe what you would do as a teacher to support students in becoming engaged readers.

Instructional planning is a process of the teacher using appropriate curricula, instructional strategies, and resources during the planning process to address the diverse needs of students.Content literacy is a cognitive and social practice involving the ability and desire to read, comprehend, critique and write about multiple forms of print. In order for all students to become engaged in reading, teachers need to provide students with appropriate strategies and materials for each students' specific needs. This will enable teachers the ability to provide the same education to many different learners in the classroom and will create an environment where students will want to learn and read.

Instructional planning is important for any teacher to bring into the classroom in order to be fully prepared. A teacher who does not plan their instruction cannot support their students in their needs. Instructional planning is important in order to integrate different content areas into a lesson in order to fully capture the students, content literacy included. All lessons should in some way incorporate content literacy, and if a teacher does not have proper instructional planning then it would be more difficult to support content literacy.

Teachers have the responsibility of ensuring that their students are learning everything they need to learn. Instructional planning is very important. Th is helps the teachers ensure that they are incorporating as much information as possible. Content literacy is very important because all other subjects rely on literacy. Instructional planning helps techers incorperate content literacy.

Karina, I agree with you that it is difficult to support content literacy if you do not plan ahead. It is so easy to incorperate different things like content literacy if you are well prepared.

As teachers, we are responsible for our students and what it is they learn. A teacher that is not up to date or constantly adapting her instructional plans is doing her students a disservice. An instructional plan contains the content and the plan in which the educator is choosing to teach the content. Without changing and implementing this plan based on student performance, the teacher is not truly reaching all her students. Children learn in many different ways and creating a plan in which to teach them that constantly changes methods and strategies assures that students will learn the content one way or another. Content literacy should be included in all subjects because reading is very important and is apart of all content areas not just the language arts.

I agree with Karina and Evelyn, that if a teacher does not properly plan for instruction then it is more than likely that the teacher will have greater difficulty including content literacy. Also, that teachers are responsible in ensuring their students are learning what they need to be learning and instructional planning is very important to the classroom flow.

As a teacher it is not enough to just know the material you are going to teach your students for the day. You have to do so much more such as creating an instructional plan. The instructional plan not only covers the subject and lesson topic, but also what strategies you intend to use and how you intend to deliver the material. It will also contain a list of what supplies and materials are needed for the lesson and how your students will use them. Through this type of planning a teacher will be able to take into account each of his or her students' needs and create a curriculum that will meet them. This plan then helps teachers to make sure they are incorporating content literacy into their lesson and use the appropriate strategies for each student to understand the texts.

In order to be fully prepared you have to bring into the classroom instructional planning in order to address the diverse needs of students. Like stated before, not all students learn the same. Instructional planning is also a way to motivate students in academic growth. Successful teachers say it matters how a lesson is introduced and the amount of student involvement. They also state that it is meaningful how the content appears to students, the pace at which information is imparted, and the amount of variety introduced. All subject areas need content literacy in order for it to be successful. without it, students would be lost and not comprehend the material.
