Dear Pre-K Parents,

The children have successfully completed their study on "Buildings." For the next five weeks the students will be studying, "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle." The students will learn the importance of taking care of our Earth. This study will teach the students independence and responsibility for throwing away their own garbage. I'm asking if you can please send in recyclables with your child. Please send in empty and clean cans, plastic bottles, paper towel rolls, etc. I would ask if you please do not send in any glass items.
Please remember our fundraiser, Pennies for Patients, to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Series campaign. If you would like to make a donation please visit http://events.lls.org/pages/nyc/StLucySchool. Once you are on the page please click on my name so our class receives your donation. This is a great cause to help those affected by Leukemia and Lymphoma. Every penny can help.
Please remember to complete the DOE 2016 Family Survey, it is due no later than April 1st.
Thank you have a great week!

Sincerely,
Ms. Cantarella

The children have completed their study on clothes. For the next six weeks we will discuss various types of buildings. The students will learn the names of buildings such as a police station, post office, etc as well as the community helpers and vehicles that can be associated with each building. This will be a fun study for the children to learn and explore.
I'm asking if you can please send in pictures of your child as well as pictures of toys, games and activities they like. We will be making our own blocks that will represent each child as well as their interest. When the study is complete, I will send home the blocks. To make these blocks, we will also need empty tissue boxes. I would appreciate it if you can send one box in with your child.

I hope all of you had an enjoyable break. This month we will continue our discussion on clothing. The students will be able to identify a variety of clothes and use descriptive words to describe clothes. The students will also practice how to snap, button and zip their clothes using our self help boards. This will help promote independence in the children.
If you would like to bring in some clothes (shirts, pants, hats, etc) it would be greatly appreciated. This will allow the children to discuss and recognize the different types of clothes. Please label the articles of clothing with your children's name so they are returned to you at the end of the study.
Please remember on Monday, January 18th, school will be closed in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Pre-K program will be closed on January 28th. The teachers have a professional development day.
Thank you!
