HW (10/10/14):  Read 2.1 of Hamlet

HW#1 (DUE THURS. 10/16):  ON LOOSELEAF:  Please read 2.2.1-237 (pgs. 81-97) of Shakespeare’s Hamlet.  Then, answer the following using specific evidence from the text in your response.  [*Please cite at least 1-2 specific lines AND use parenthetical citations in your response.]

1)  Who are Rosencrantz and Guilderstern?  Why has Claudius and Gertrude summoned them?  How do they react?

2)  Voltemand and Cornelius have returned from Norway. What does Voltemand tell them?  How do you think this will affect the play?

3)  How does Polonius explain Hamlet’s madness?

4)  What does Polonius report to the King about Hamlet? What does he use as “proof?” Do you believe its contents?  Explain.

5)  How would you describe Polonius’ interaction with Hamlet?  How might you describe Hamlet’s tone towards Polonius?  Explain.

HW#2:  Write a well-developed, one paragraph response to your Common Core Question:  Should mentally ill offenders be held responsible for their actions?  (Due Wednesday, 10/22)

HW#4:  Read through 3.4.  Then, write a well-developed, one paragraph response comparing/contrasting any two characters in the play so far.  Please provide evidence from the text.  Due Thurs., 10/30.
