Please include the following in your notes on The Language of Poetry:

As we move through the unit on poetry, you should be taking notes. The questions and definitions should be done in the same order as we cover them in the unit. Beginning on page 668 you should write the definitions for and be able to explain the difference betwen Traditional and Organic poetry. Include examples for each. Know what a stanza, a quatrain, and a couplet are.

For the poetry on pages 669-675, you should write the name of each poem and the author. Answer the Close Read questions. Leave room on your paper to add information as we discuss the poems in class.

On page  670, you will define and give examples for the following poetic elements: rhyme, rhythm, internal rhyme, end rhyme, meter, scansion, and rhyme scheme.

Also include definitions and examples for repetition, alliteration, assonance, consonance.

Include the elements of meter in your notes: definition of foot, types of feet (iamb, trochee, spondee) and number of feet in the line (trimeter, tetrameter, pentameter).

Continue answering the questions for each of the poems through page 675. Write definitions (short) for the figurative language: simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, imagery, sensory details.
