Happy Monday!

Here are a few reminders for this week:

-Students will be working online in their textbooks as a home learning assignment. Students can access it through Clever via the MCSD website. 

-We will have our next assessment on Tuesday, September 17th. Make sure that your child is utilizing Quizlet, their textbooks, and ISNs to help study! 

This week in Georgia Studies we will:

Monday:

We were introduced to the founding of Georgia! The students learned about James Oglethorpe and the reasons for settlement in our beautiful state! Ask your child what they have learned about the founding! 

HOMEWORK: Work on your Textbook Clickbook module due this Friday!

Tuesday:

We will be working on a settlement invitation project where students have the choice to do a flyer, advertisement, or a letter to convice the worthy English to settle in the colony of Georgia. 

Students will then be introduced to those who contributed to the establishment of Savannah including James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove. 

HOMEWORK: Work on your Textbook Clickbook module due this Friday! 

Wednesday:

We will learn about the various groups who were brought into the colony, including the Salzburgers, Highland Scots, Jews, and Malcontents.

Thursday:

Students will learn about the transition from a Trustee colony to a Royal one. Students will partake in a debate activity as well! 

Homework: Work on your Textbook Clickbook module due tomorrow.

Friday:

Students will work on a journal activity from a "colonist's perspective". Students will get to imagine how life was like for the colonists during this time. Students will need to incorporate all that we have learned this week. 

We will also be reviewing for the test next week. 

Standards being addressed:

SS8H2 Analyze the colonial period of Georgia’s history.

a. Explain the importance of the Charter of 1732, including the reasons for settlement (philanthropy, economics, and defense).

b. Analyze the relationship between James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove in establishing the city of Savannah at Yamacraw Bluff.

c. Evaluate the role of diverse groups (Jews, Salzburgers, Highland Scots, and Malcontents) in settling Georgia during the Trustee Period.

d. Explain the transition of Georgia into a royal colony with regard to land ownership, slavery, alcohol, and government.

e. Give examples of the kinds of goods and services produced and traded in colonial Georgia.

Physical Science:

We will be addressing the following standard this week:

S8P1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the structure and properties of matter. 

c. Plan and carry out investigations to compare and contrast chemical (i.e., reactivity, combustibility) and physical (i.e., density, melting point, boiling point) properties of matter.

d. Construct an argument based on observational evidence to support the claim that when a change in a substance occurs, it can be classified as either chemical or physical.
