Today was an interesting day, to say the least. During my first block, I received a call from my daughters' school nurse, who informed me my youngest daughter had significant trouble breathing. This meant I had to burden my colleagues with my 6th grade class, who behaved well. During first block, I made a point to teach slowly and thoroughly so that all students would understand the combinations. However, I think their nerves got the best of them, and they did not ask as many questions as needed. I was pleased that they stayed engaged and attentive and involved in class discussions. They loved the across the floor combination, even though some found it extremely challenging. I already have some students for after school tutoring, which shows me that they want to learn and be successful. I couldn't ask for more. Finally, came my Dance Majors II class, which had their movement assessment for placement purposes. I tried my hardest not to give so many corrections, since it was an assessment. However, I did give some reminders and tips and asked important questions regarding alignment. All in all, I had a great day. If I were to change anything it would be to remember to give my new students their syllabus, so that they know what they need for class.
