AR Projects are due next Monday, October 14!

Students should be reading nightly for at least 20 minutes!  This week we will be looking at two Edgar Allan Poe stories, "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "Black Cat."  Students will continue to develop their understanding of plot and characterization.  We will begin looking at various figurative language techniques found in Poe's stories.

Monday

Journal 17:  Using Journal 16 create a story based on your plot diagram.  Since this a two part journal only make sure that you have included your exposition  and at least 1 of your rising actions.  Keep in mind indirect and direct characterization when introducing and developing your characters.

Words are based on Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart," (TTH).

Dissimulation, sagacity, scantling, dismembered, audacity, vehemently, wary, wane, supposition, suavity.  

Unfinished word maps are homework and due Tuesday.

Wednesday

Journal:  Finish your story from Monday.  Be sure that you have incorporated all 5 rising actions, a climax, falling action, and resolution.  Must be at least 2 pages long from beginning to end.

Read pages 276-278 "Reading Informational Materials:  Summary of 'The Tell-Tale Heart,'" and complete activites on pg. 279 #1-3, reading comprehension, and  comparison.

Independent Reading and/or work on projects.

Thursday

Comprehension Skills:  Characterization 3 & 4

Discuss Wednesday's assignement.

Finish reading "TTH" and activitiy on comprehension and figurative language.  

Friday

Students will be receiving grades on their "Adventure of the Speckled Band" test, vocabulary quiz, and bullying essay.  

All students should be reading nightly for homework!!!  Projects are due 10/14 and 25 AR points are due 10/23

Monday: 

  1. Students will receive vocabulary from text and have time to work on definitions in class.
  2. Five elements of a short story
  3. Begin reading "The Most Dangerous Game" and discuss the 3 most memorable/important details.
Tuesday:
  1. Independent Reading time.
  2. Work on Comprehension skills (understanding text organization)
  3. Literary term chart; plot and theme
  4. Read "The Most Dangerous Game" and making predictions.
Wednesday:
  1. Learning about characterization and Activity.
  2. Read "The Most Dangerous Game"
Thursday:
  1. Independent Reading
  2. Comprehension skills (understanding text organization)
  3. Finish "The Most Dangerous Game" and mood.
  4. Vocabulary/plot review.
Friday:
  1. Test:  "The Most Dangerous Game" (vocabulary words will be incorporated into the test)
  2. Beging Watching the movie "The Most Dangerous Game"-pending movie approval from Mrs. Poplin.
