Parents and students:

A parent contacted me and asked if I could provide examples of what the different components of the project should look like when finished. I will post examples soon! In the meantime, the journal entries that students have been completing for homework are tools to help the students think about what they would like to write about in their final narrative essay. We are also working on a graphic organizer in class, utilizing several narrative stories and poems, to help students understand how narratives are structured.

Homework tonight (Tuesday, Sept. 14) was to illustrate one of their journal entries in the form of a comic strip. The goal of the comic is two-fold: 1.) to give kinesthetic learners the opportunity to visualize narratives, and 2.) to give students a fun assignment. They will be able to use the comic as a "rough draft" for their final comic, which we will work on in class. I will provide blank paper and coloring utensils, although students are more-than-welcome to work on the comic at home. The more creative and colorful, the better!

Parents and students:

If you (or your child) need extra help, I will be holding study hall in the afternoon on Tues., Wed., and Thur. I will be at the school until 5:30 p.m. each of these days.  If you would like to stay, let me know. Every student is welcome.

Parents and students:

We will have our second test of the school year on Thursday. It will cover the different types of nouns that we have been studying: common nouns, proper nouns, collective nouns, plural nouns, abstract nouns, and possessive nouns. We will review these nouns for the first few days of class this week.

Parents:

Progress reports were sent home today.  In many cases, the Language Arts grades were not updated.  I gave students a "make-up" work day last Friday to replace "0s" for class work and homework. If you student has a lower-grade point average, it is most likely for a low test grade.

Please, please, PLEASE contact me if you ever have any concerns or questions about your child's grades or performance in my class.  If I can do anything within my power as a teacher to help your student perform better, let me know. It is my goal as your child's teacher to help them attain success!

You can email me at [email protected] or call me at 706-718-8208.  I can meet with you during my planning ( 2 - 3 p.m.) or after school on almost any day.
