Dear Parents and Students,

Science fair will be held on November 7 and is mandatory of all students.  The students will be introduced to the science fair during the next two weeks.  They each will receive a project book to help them in planning and writing their research paper as well as performing their experiments. Please review the attached timeline and information regarding the science fair. There is a change, this year, in the presentation of the projects.  The students may present their project on a PowerPoint, or they may do the backboard as usual.  After the initial judging of the projects by staff and peers, the students who will go on to the formal judging on the 7th of November and have presented their project as a PowerPoint, must put their project on a backboard.

Research paper, materials list, variables, and procedures due on the 21st of September are still a hard copy.  These should be typed, 14 font, Times Roman Numeral, and double spaced.  Please proofread your work and use spell check.  Please remember, if you hand in information printed off the internet as your research paper, a grade of zero will be given.  The research paper must be in your own words.  Follow the guidelines in your project book for the paper and the bibliography.  You need a minimum of 3 resources for your background research.

In order to get the full points, the items must be turned in on the due date.

Topics dealing with which liquid will freeze the fastest, Mentos and soda or which candle burns the fastest will not be allowed.  As a middle school student, you also cannot experiment with or on any animals or animal part such as chicken bones, earthworms, and humans.
