Happy Monday! 

Here are the reminders for the week:

-USAtestprep Reconstruction Assignments due Monday, December 10th

-New South test is next Tuesday, December 18th- study, use Quizlet!

 

The standards that will be addressed for this week: 

SS8H7 Evaluate key political, social, and economic changes that occurred in Georgia
during the New South Era.
a. Identify the ways individuals, groups, and events attempted to shape the New South;
include the Bourbon Triumvirate, Henry Grady, International Cotton Expositions, and Tom
Watson and the Populists.
b. Analyze how rights were denied to African Americans or Blacks through Jim Crow laws,
Plessy v. Ferguson, disenfranchisement, and racial violence, including the 1906 Atlanta
Riot.
c. Explain the roles of Booker T. Washington, W. E. B. DuBois, and Alonzo Herndon in
advancement of the rights of African Americans or Blacks in the New South Era.
d. Examine antisemitism and the resistance to racial equality exemplified in the Leo Frank
case.

 

Monday:

We are working on a choice board project about the people and events of the New South. The following choices are:

-International Cotton Exposition Advertisement

-Populist Party letter to Georgia General Assembly

-Bourbon Triumvirate Graphic Organizer

-Henry Grady and Tom Watson compare and contrast

 

*Choice Board Projects will be due Friday, December 14th

 

Tuesday:

We will finish working on the choice board projects and will be learning about the rights that were taken away from African Americans during the New South era.

Homework: Finish working on your choice board project.

 

Wednesday:

We will be learning about the different ideas and beliefs of both W.E.B. DuBois and Booker T. Washington. Students will be reading about each individual and will complete a reading activity.

 

Thursday:

We will be learning about the Leo Frank case and the effects of anti-semitism in Georgia during the New South. We will complete a mock trial of the case and my students seem to enjoy it! 

 

 

Friday:

We will be working on a study guide over the New South for the test on December 18th.

Happy Monday! 

Parents/Guardians here are a few reminders for this week:

-Reconstruction Test will be this Thursday, December 6th. 

-Make sure that your child is studying daily! They are able to follow me on Quizlet and use the flashcards provided. 

-USAtestprep Reconstruction Work is due on the 10th of December-make sure that your child completes it! This will count as two grades. 

-I provide tutoring every Thursday until 5:00 PM

-Feel free to contact me! 

 

For this week:

Monday: We are analyzing texts that pertain to sharecropping in the Reconstruction era. Students are answering questions that are provided.

Homework: Work on USAtestprep, due December 10th.

Tuesday: We are finishing analyzing the texts and students will provide their own opinions as to whether or not sharecropping is another form of slavery.

Homework: Work on USAtestprep, due December 10th.

Wednesday: We are going to review for our Reconstruction quiz on Thursday. Students will be completing an expert card as a study guide/.

Homework: Complete USAtestprep, due December 10th.

Thursday: Students will take their Reconstruction test and will be previewed for the next standard, which is the New South. 

Homework: Work on USAtestprep, due December 10th.

Friday: Students are going to be introduced to the New South standard. They will conduct a research assignment about the people, places, and events that helped shape the New South. 

Homework: Work on USAtestprep, due December 10th. Have a great weekend!

Happy Monday! 

We are getting closer and closer to Thanksgiving Break! As we are drawing near to a much needed break, here are some announcements:

-Discussion Board on Canvas (extra credit) will be due Tuesday, November 6th. 

-Students will be given a USAtestprep series of assignments on Thursday, November 8th, which will be due November 28th. 

-Students must continue to study, study, study! They can utilize Quizlet to study vocabulary and content in class. 

-Civil War Test will be Wednesday, November 14th.

 

Monday: We were introduced to the second part of our standard, which is the Civil War. They learned about the Union blockade that blocked the coast of Georgia. Students are taking a liking to the Civil War! 

Tuesday: We are discussing the action of Abraham Lincoln addressing the Emancipation Proclamation.

Wednesday: We will be discussing the Battle of Chickmauga and Sherman's Atlanta Campaign and March to the Sea. 

Thursday: We will be discussing the horrors that Union Prisoners of War faced in Andersonville Prison. Students will be working on an Andersonville Prison postcard.

Friday: Students will work on a study guide for their Civil War test on Wednesday, November 14th.

Happy Homecoming! 

Weekly Readers will be assigned this week. It is on Achieve 3000 and the title is: The Native American Way of Life. Students are to read and answer questions by Friday, October 26th.

This week we are going to cover the following standards: 

SS8H4 Explain significant factors that affected westward expansion in Georgia between
1789 and 1840.
a. Explain reasons for the establishment of the University of Georgia, and for the westward
movement of Georgia’s capitals.
b. Evaluate the impact of land policies pursued by Georgia; include the headright system, land
lotteries, and the Yazoo Land Fraud.
c. Explain how technological developments, including the cotton gin and railroads, had an
impact on Georgia’s growth.
d. Describe the role of William McIntosh in the removal of the Creek from Georgia.
e. Analyze how key people (John Ross, John Marshall, and Andrew Jackson) and events
(Dahlonega Gold Rush and Worcester v. Georgia) led to the removal of the Cherokees
from Georgia known as the Trail of Tears.

SS8H5 Analyze the impact of the Civil War on Georgia.
a. Explain the importance of key issues and events that led to the Civil War; include slavery,
states’ rights, nullification, Compromise of 1850 and the Georgia Platform, the Dred Scott
case, Abraham Lincoln’s election in 1860, and the debate over secession in Georgia.

Monday: We started working on our assessment for the SS8H4 with a choice board activity. Students are required to pick one activity to complete that corresponds with the standard. 

Homework: Work on USAtestprep due Thursday, October 25th.

Tuesday: We will continue working on our choice boards in class. This will be the last day to complete the assignment. If it is not finished, students are encouraged to finish at home.

Homework: Work on USAtestprep, which is due Thursday, October 25th.

Wednesday: We will be reviewing over the standard with completing Word Walls today. 

Homework:Complete USATestprep due Thursday, October 25th.

Thursday: We are starting a new standard! One of my favorites: The Civil War! Students will be working on learning about the causes of the Civil War and how it impacted Georgia.

Homework: Study the materials necessary to master the standard.

Friday: We will continue learning about the causes of the Civil War!

Happy Monday! 

 

Parents/Guardians here are a few reminders for this week:

  • Your child is more than welcome to check out his/her ISNs daily. This is allowed ONLY if the child is responsible enough to bring it back on the next day. I do random ISN checks and if your child does not have his/her ISN, he/she will receive a zero. 
  • There will be quizzes every week. Make sure that your child is utilizing USAtestprep or Quizlet daily to go over terms for the week.
    This is what will be going on this week:

Monday:

        We reviewed over all of SS8H2 in preparation for our quiz tomorrow. The students seem ready! Please let your child utilize Quizlet to study for their quiz. My username is

Tuesday:

    We are going to start a new standard!We are going to learn about the causes of the American Revolution and how it affected Georgia. We will also take our SS8H2 quiz.

HOMEWORK: 

    Study the materials necessary to master the standard.

Wednesday:

    We will continue discussing about the causes of the American Revolution. We will also talk about the Declaration of Independence. Students will create their own DOI in class. If they do not finish in class, they will take it home. 

HOMEWORK: 

    Finish your DOI assignment. Study the materials necessary to master the standard.  

Thursday:

    We will review the Declaration of Independence and the Causes of the American Revolution. We will also begin to learn about the battles during the Revolutionary War such as the Siege of Savannah and the Battle of Kettle Creek. 

HOMEWORK: 

    Study the materials necessary to master the standard.

Friday:

    We will be working in the lab on Achieve 3000. They are required to score 75% or higher on the article questions. 

HOMEWORK:

     Study the materials necessary to master the standard.

Standard(s) addressed this week: 

SS8H3 Analyze the role of Georgia in the American Revolutionary Era.
a. Explain the causes of the American Revolution as they impacted Georgia; include the French and Indian War, Proclamation of 1763, and the Stamp Act.
b. Interpret the three parts of the Declaration of Independence (preamble, grievances, and declaration) and identify the three Georgia signers of the document.
c. Analyze the significance of the Loyalists and Patriots as a part of Georgia’s role in the Revolutionary War; include the Battle of Kettle Creek and Siege of Savannah.
d. Analyze the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation and explain how those
weaknesses led to the writing of a new federal Constitution.
