Happy Monday! 

 

Parents/Guardians here are a few reminders for this week:

  • Your child is more than welcome to check out his/her ISNs daily. This is allowed ONLY if the child is responsible enough to bring it back on the next day. I do random ISN checks and if your child does not have his/her ISN, he/she will receive a zero. 
  • USAtestprep modules are open for my class. You child will be given two (2) weeks to complete the module for SS8H1 and SS8H2 review. There will be no extension given for the module. 
  • There will be quizzes every week. Make sure that your child is utilizing USAtestprep or Quizlet daily to go over terms for the week.
    This is what will be going on this week:

Monday:

      We learned about how James Oglethorpe and the Colonists received the land of Savannah with the help of Tomochichi and Mary Musgrove. The students took notes and we created a relationship chart involving the three major players. 

 

Tuesday:

    We will be learning about the diverse groups who came to the colony of Georgia. 

HOMEWORK: 

    Finish assignments not completed in class; work on USAtestprep module due SEPTEMBER 14.

Wednesday:

    We will be discussing about Georgia's transition from a Trustee to a Royal colony. Students will be involved in a debate whether as a Trustee or a Malcontent in the colony. The purpose of the debate is for students to analyze the new laws and regulations that the Royal colony established. 

HOMEWORK: 

    Work on USAtestprep module due SEPTEMBER 14. Study the standard using Quizlet. 

Thursday:

    We will review standard SS8H2 for the upcoming quiz. Students are asked to bring phones/tablets/iPads for our Quizlet Live review. 

HOMEWORK: 

    Work on USAtestprep module due SEPTEMBER 14. Study on Quizlet.

Friday:

    We will be celebrating our 40th anniversary!!! 

HOMEWORK:

     Study SS8H2 on Quizlet.

SS8H2: Analyze the colonial period of Georgia’s history.

  1. Explain the importance of the Charter of 1732, including the reasons for settlement (philanthropy, economics, and defense).
  2. Analyze the relationship between James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove in establishing the city of Savannah at Yamacraw Bluff.
  3. Evaluate the role of diverse groups (Jews, Salzburgers, Highland Scots, and Malcontents) in settling Georgia during the Trustee Period.

Good Evening! 

I hope that you all had a restful Labor Day weekend!

    This is what will be going on this week:

Tuesday:

    We will be finishing up SS8H1 about the Mississippian Indians and European Exploration in America.
    We will be completing two performance tasks. The first one will be creating a citation for Spanish Conquistador Hernando de Soto (this is a student favorite) where the students will create a ticket for the mass spreading of diseases towards the American Indians. 
    Students will then write a journal entry for both the American Indian and European explorer perspective.

HOMEWORK: 

    Finish assignments not completed in class; work on USAtestprep module due SEPTEMBER 14.

Wednesday:

    On today, we will be introduced to a new standard! We will finally move onto the founding of Georgia! Students usually do well on this standard due to the activities involved. Students are asked to bring cellular devices/ipads/tablets for Nearpod, which is an interactive PowerPoint for students to take notes with. 

HOMEWORK: 

    Work on USAtestprep module due SEPTEMBER 14. Study the standard using Quizlet. 

Thursday:

    We will continue this standard with learning about James Oglethorpe, the father of Georgia and his encounter with the Yamacraw Indians Tomochichi and Mary Musgrove. We will be completing a flow chart along with students creating an invitation to come to Georgia. 

HOMEWORK: 

    Work on USAtestprep module due SEPTEMBER 14. Study on Quizlet.

Friday:

    We will learn more about colonial Georgia with the various groups that made the colony of Georgia thrive.

Happy Wednesday!
I hope that you had a safe and well rested Spring Break! As we are trying to prepare for the GMAS, it is important that the students are working on the USA testprep for guided practice! The Spring Break assignment is due this Friday and will be for a GRADE. All of this week we are focusing on reviewing all of the standards taught this year! The students are anxious but I know that they will do an awesome job!

Here are some helpful tips as we prepare:
-Students will be given back their ISNS to take home and study. Please make sure that they are looking through as it has all of the information needed for this assessment.

-Students will need plenty of rest the night before so that they can be awake and alert during testing.

-Students will also need to eat a healthy breakfast!!

-I encourage you to help me lift our students up and let them know to do their best! They have worked so hard for this moment!

Good Afternoon Parents!

We are quickly approaching testing season! As we are preparing for success on this test I ask that you:

-Ask your child about USA testprep, make sure that assignments are being completed.
-Please allow your child to attend after school tutoring or Saturday school. It is important for students to have the crutch and extra practice.

We will be do the following this week:
Monday: We are wrapping up our Civil Rights Unit! We will have a Civil Rights quiz this Wednesday, if time permits.

Tuesday: We are going to start another standard, SS8H12. This will be the last History standard for Georgia Studies. We will be conducting Mock Testing for the GMAS.

Wednesday: We will be conducting Mock Testing for the GMAS.

Thursday: We will be conducting GMAS Mock Testing.

Friday: We will be conducting GMAS Mock Testing

Happy Sunday! I hope that your weekend was just as restful as mine!

We are enjoying the Civil Rights Unit that we began last week! We will be finishing it up this week as we are wrapping up the History chunk for the upcoming GMAS in April.

This week is as follows:

Monday: We are doing a brief overview of the standard. We will be discussing Martin Luther King Jr., Albany Movement, March on Washington, Civil Rights Act of 1964, and more! Students will be given a study guide to study for the Civil Rights Quiz on Friday.

Tuesday: We will be wrapping up the brief overview of the standard and we will do an activity where students will be able to learn the similarities and differences between two major organizations during the movement, the SNCC and the SCLC.

Wednesday: Students are going to begin working on their choice board project. Students will be able to choose between 8 project choices which they will be working on during class.

Thursday: Students will continue working on their Choice Board projects. We will then review for their Civil Rights Quiz Friday.

Friday: Students will take their Civil Rights Quiz and will be introduced to Jimmy Carter!


Reminders: Students should be working on USA Testprep! Please ensure that your child is going over previous information in class to keep their minds fresh and ready for the GMAS in April!
