Happy Tuesday, everyone! I hope that you all had a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. We are continuing our study of the Civil Rights movement and how it impacted people in Georgia this week. On Friday, many of our students will go to see Hidden Figures, a movie that deals with race and gender discrimination in the 1960s. This will be an excellent opportunity for our students to see how what they're learning in the classroom impacted everyday people, and ultimately, our nation's history.

We will have a notebook check quiz on Friday and students will submit their Civil Rights Timeline projects on Friday as well.

Good afternoon, parents and students!

This week we are finising up our unit on WW2. We will have a test on Tuesday that covers the New South Period, WW1, The Great Depression and WW2. Please encourage your child to study by using Quizlet.com, their study guides, and/or their ISNs (they were allowed to check them out today!).

On Wednesday we will work on a project that comes from our WW2 standard. Students will create a project expressing how every day Georgians contributed to the war effort in WW2. We will begin our Civil Rights unit on Thursday. Students will begin creating a folder-project that will be due next week.

Thank you for all of your support and encouragement. Please remember that I am here on Thursdays and Fridays for extra help or for students to make up missing assignments. Have a great week!

Hello Parents and Students!

This week in Georgia Studies, we are discussing World War 2 and how Georgia was impacted both socially and economically. We will discuss the Holocaust, women in the workforce, and our major contributions to the war effort. We will also talk about Franklin Roosevelt's ties to the local area through Warm Springs and the Little White House and how that impacted his policies as President.

Please be reminded that progress reports will go out next week. Students should plan to stay after school and make up any missing assignments or class notes. I am available every day after school except for days when there are basketball games (Wednesday, this week).

Thank you for your support. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Happy Monday, Everyone!

It's hard to believe that we are almost in February! We are moving full-steam ahead into our final few history units. This week and part of next week will be devoted to learning about the Great Depression, what caused it and how it impacted our state. We will also learn about the legacy of Eugene Talmadge and how his political career impacted Georgia.

In order to help prepare students for the Georgia Milestone Assessment (GMAS) we will begin our block scheduling this week. This will add 20 minutes to each class period. We will use this time to review information that was taught in previous units. Please encourage your student to take this review time seriously.

Homework this week: Quizlet Unit 9 Vocabulary Review Sheet

Quizzes: Prepare for a small quiz on Wednesday and possibly another one on Friday.

Have a great week!

Weekly Update 1/23

This week in Georgia Studies, we will study at 5 day unit on The New South period in Georgia's history (1877-1918). This covers events and social issues such as Jim Crow laws, the evolution of the textile industry and the events that led up to World War I.

Students have a vocabulary worksheet to do for homework that is due on Wednesday. They can use their Quizlet account to help them. Students should expect a mini quiz each day this week to ensure that they are mastering each element of our standard. They will be allowed to use their notes from the previous day's class to assist them.

Please encourage your child to submit their Transportation Poster. It is a project that was assigned Friday in class that was due today. I will be updating Infinite Campus with those that have and have not submitted these projects this afternoon.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you might have. Have a great week, everyone!
