August 19 -23
Hello Parents,
As the school year continues we are stressing that every student purchase a locker. Bookbags are not allowed in the classrooms. Students seem to be settling in and getting use to the daily routine, rules, and procedures. This week we are beginning Unit 1 of our Common Core Standards. Unit 1 consist of Number System Fluency. We began interpreting and dividing fractions using various models to help solve for the quotient. I have asked students to take their math textbook home and leave there for the year. We do not use them in class. It is a resource that they can use for extra practice and a helpful tool to assist with homework.
Homework:
Monday: Define Unit 1 vocabulary words given
Tuesday: Explain to a parent how use a fraction model to solve the problen 1 1/2 divided by 1/2.
Wednesday: 4 problem handout on dividing
Thursday: Textbook pg. 58 #'s 1-13
Friday: No homework

It\'s school time again! I am very elated to have your child in my class. I believe that by all of us working together we can make this a very successful year. I consider it of prime importance that you be an active part of your child\'s education.
You are invited to phone me or visit the school any time that you have a question concerning your child\'s progress, or if you want to join in any of the fun-filled engagng lessons. I will keep you informed by email, phone calls, and schoolnotes.com. It is important that you and your child are informed of my rituals and routines and expectations of classroom behavior. I have always found parents to be very supportive of positive classroom behavior so their child has a good environment for maximum learning. I hope that you will advise me if at any time your child has a problem, academically, socially, or emotionally. Should your child become discouraged or fearful about school, please communicate with me so that we can determine the cause of the problem.
