  • WICKED WEATHER

As term one closes and grades are being calculated, we will being our second unit:  Wicked Weather.  You may start the title page on page 43 - include as much as you can about weather and climate.  This should be a FULL collage, not merely a few drawings.  Label images as you need to, fully coloring each diagram.  Remember the ABCD of scientific illustration.

  • GET A HEAD START

YouTube.com playlist for Just Donna Glynn already has a new playlist set up for WICKED WEATHER.  Start watching those or others on all things weather & climate.   Also, start looking at the CK12 text and activities for this Unit.

  • EXPLORE THE DETAILS

You've already begun some letter writing...are you sure it is what you want to say?  Someone important is going to read this letter.   This may be a good time to research, watch videos, and get as much info as you can about the current state of our every changing climate.

  • PREP FOR YOUR MENTOR

You must meet with your mentor no later than December 15th.   Be prepared to discuss your topic and at least 2 things you found most interesting from their research paper.  Remember that your mentor can only meet on team at a time.  If you wait until the last minute to schedule a meeting, you may not get your chance!   I will be checking this as an assignment.

Reminder:  Term 2 is more difficult.  The pace is faster, the curriculum is new, the expectations are higher now that everyone has got the 7th grade out of their systems!  Also keep in mind that that we will be interupted by two vacations, snow, and a STEM fair.    Keep up to date on assignments, announcements, and extra information provided online through Aspen, new.schoolnotes.com, YouTube.com, Google Drive, and within our CK12 online textbook.   We will use these resources to communicate and stay on track, particularly in the event of snow emergencies.  STEM fair and MCAS will happen on time even if we lose school days to snow!

AHA Thesis- page 2 template:

Finally you will answer the BIG QUESTION!

You will show what you learned in 4 paragraphs, submitting a nice, clean, edited FINAL DRAFT by Friday, 02 DEC 16.  When you get your paper back, please attach it to page 18 for the completion of the unit.

First, choose at least four activities from the unit that best helped you learn about the topic.   This is different for each student.   During which activities did you have an "A-ha!" moment?  Which lessons provide answers to the big question?

Paragraph 1:  Discuss the big question for unit 1, "Changing New England."  Talk about the problem within the question, related sub-questions, essential questions for MCAS/State Standards, how long did it take to answer the question.

Follow the directions on your template for the remaining 3 paragraphs.

Remember, final assessments count as 35% of your final grade.  Please give your best work!
