Happy Monday!

Here are a few reminders for this week:

-Students will be working online in their textbooks as a home learning assignment. Students can access it through Clever via the MCSD website. 

-We will have our next assessment on Tuesday, September 17th. Make sure that your child is utilizing Quizlet, their textbooks, and ISNs to help study! 

This week in Georgia Studies we will:

Monday:

We were introduced to the founding of Georgia! The students learned about James Oglethorpe and the reasons for settlement in our beautiful state! Ask your child what they have learned about the founding! 

HOMEWORK: Work on your Textbook Clickbook module due this Friday!

Tuesday:

We will be working on a settlement invitation project where students have the choice to do a flyer, advertisement, or a letter to convice the worthy English to settle in the colony of Georgia. 

Students will then be introduced to those who contributed to the establishment of Savannah including James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove. 

HOMEWORK: Work on your Textbook Clickbook module due this Friday! 

Wednesday:

We will learn about the various groups who were brought into the colony, including the Salzburgers, Highland Scots, Jews, and Malcontents.

Thursday:

Students will learn about the transition from a Trustee colony to a Royal one. Students will partake in a debate activity as well! 

Homework: Work on your Textbook Clickbook module due tomorrow.

Friday:

Students will work on a journal activity from a "colonist's perspective". Students will get to imagine how life was like for the colonists during this time. Students will need to incorporate all that we have learned this week. 

We will also be reviewing for the test next week. 

Standards being addressed:

SS8H2 Analyze the colonial period of Georgia’s history.

a. Explain the importance of the Charter of 1732, including the reasons for settlement (philanthropy, economics, and defense).

b. Analyze the relationship between James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove in establishing the city of Savannah at Yamacraw Bluff.

c. Evaluate the role of diverse groups (Jews, Salzburgers, Highland Scots, and Malcontents) in settling Georgia during the Trustee Period.

d. Explain the transition of Georgia into a royal colony with regard to land ownership, slavery, alcohol, and government.

e. Give examples of the kinds of goods and services produced and traded in colonial Georgia.

Physical Science:

We will be addressing the following standard this week:

S8P1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the structure and properties of matter. 

c. Plan and carry out investigations to compare and contrast chemical (i.e., reactivity, combustibility) and physical (i.e., density, melting point, boiling point) properties of matter.

d. Construct an argument based on observational evidence to support the claim that when a change in a substance occurs, it can be classified as either chemical or physical.

Happy Monday and welcome to Georgia Studies!!! I'm so excited to be your Georgia Studies teacher this year! We will be opening our minds, investigating, and analyzing our beautiful history for the state of Georgia! 

Here are a few announcements:

-We are having our first assessment on Wednesday. Make sure that your child is studying the 5 geographic regions, Georgia's location in relation to hemispheres, contintents, nation, and region. Students must also study the physical features of Georgia.

-You can utilize my study sets on Quizlet to help your child study. There are flashcards and interactive games. My profile is Ms_Myers33.

 

This week we will:

Monday: Students began working on their Georgia Regions Brochure project. This will be due on Wednesday, August 28th. Rubrics and instructions were passed out in class today.

Tuesday: We will be finishing the brochures in class and reviewing for the assessment! Students should be studying to master the standard.

Wednesday: Students will be taking the Geography Assessment, in which will be a major grade. Students are welcomed to take their ISNs home to study.

Thursday: We will be starting a new standard! We are going to be learning about the Mississippians! 

Friday: We will continue to be learning about the Mississippians and European contact.

 

Physical Science:

We will be working on our Adopt-an-Element project along with learning about the Periodic Table.

Happy Monday! 

As we are in the lieu of testing season, it is important for your child to:

    1. Study, study, study!
    2. Get some rest
    3. Remain confident! They know this information, just study for re-enforcement.

 

      We are testing this week! Wednesday will be Math, followed by Science, and Georgia Studies will be this 

Friday. 

      Please make sure that your child is studying and prepared! As always, they can utilize Quizlet for flashcards, games, and tests. My username is Ms_Myers33

Happy Monday! 

I hope that you had a restful and eventful Spring Break! Here are some reminders:

  1. Testing begins next Monday! Students need to be studying, studying, and studying!
  2. Testing for Georgia Studies GMAS will be April 19th!

We will be reviewing for all Georgia Studies this week! I encourage your child to come this week as we begin to review for GMAS.

***Students were to complete their USATestprep by March 31st. They were given a month to complete all assignments. This is big part of their grade for the 4th nine weeks.***

Happy Monday! 

Here are a couple of reminders  for this week:

  1. USATestprep Government Assignments are due March 31. Students were given a month to complete the 14 assignments.
  2. Make sure that your child is studying! They can utilize Quizlet and other online resources such as GPB.org to study in an interactive and engaging way.
    This is what we will be discussing for this week:

Monday:

      We were learning about Maynard Jackson, Andrew Young, and Jimmy Carter. Students made a word cloud about what they learned about Jimmy Carter.

 

    **Homework: Work on USATestprep

Tuesday:

    We will be learning about the economy of Georgia dealing with the film industry, trade, and tourism! Students will be able to make their own Tour of Georgia video!
    **Homework: Work on USATestprep

Wednesday:

    We are going to be learing about personal finance! Students will be going through a life simulation where they are given an occupation, income, and they will have to budget their money with real life expenses. I believe that they students will enjoy this! 
    **Homework: Work on USATestprep

Thursday and Friday:

    We will begin reviewing all of the Georgia Studies standards for the GMAS!!
