Dear Students and Parents,

Last week, students learned about selected countries and features of Europe. Students spent the whole week working on map activities review games and even a scavenger hunt to prepare for the quiz last Friday. Many students did VERY well. Some still need a little work so on Monday students will receive their quiz score and focus on locating the countries/features that they missed on the quiz.

**Parents, I try to have quizzes weekly or bi-weekly to document students' mastery of the standards. Students are allowed to check out their interactive student notebooks (ISNs) with teacher permission to prepare for quizzes and in some instances are able to use their ISNs when taking a quiz. I also send out weekly or bi-weekly study sheets that require a parent signature to ensure that students are actually studying, I have review materials available under the 6th grade tab of my website (heymrsellis.weebly.com), and I send out a reminder text message the week of the quiz.

Our focus for this week is population distribution of Europe (where people live and why).

This week in social studies:
Monday: Map enrichment or remediation based on quiz score
Tuesday:  Cornell notes + videos on population distribution of Europe
Wednesday:  Map analysis worksheet
Thursday: Persuasive writing--convince a friend to move to Europe!
Friday: Review, quiz + ISN check

Homework: Study map of Europe, prepare for quiz on Friday, make sure all assignments are up-to-date in ISN
